How to Use a Floor Sander

Although you can do the job with an electric sander, floor sander rentals and a lot easier on your back and also a lot smoother. We always recommend you rent a floor sander on areas greater then 400 sq feet. Here are a few steps that you should follow when sanding:

Wear a mask, to help you not inhale so much dust. Also keep the windows open to help improve ventilation while you are working.

Remove the floor trim before starting so that you can avoid hitting them with the sander and so that you can sand closer to the edges.

Go over the entire floor at least twice (you may want to use a coarse sander the first time and a fine sander the second time).

After sanding, wipe the floors with a slightly damp cloth to remove the particles that may have settled there while sanding.

The next step is to apply the varnish. Typically, it is recommended that you use 2 to 3 coats. This is also help to hide blemishes and help restore the wood back to it original color.

How Much Does a Floor Sander Cost

Well the prices for a floor sander actually vary quite a bit. There are places that rent for as little as $40 per day and some place that rent for as much as $100. It is a good idea to shop around. A lot of the locally owned and operated companies may be able to give you the best deals. Average rental rates are around $50 to $60. When you rent a floor sander, we suggest that you do not pay extra for insurance, (very low risk) but you are free to make your own decision.
